The Strategic Plan defines levels and types of public transportation services offered to the citizens of Thurston County over the next six years and determines the amount and sources of the revenue to finance the services. The 2021-2026 Strategic Plan represents the outcome of a multi-year short-and long-range planning process, which included a significant public engagement process, and was adopted in November 2018 and approval of the November 6, 2018, vote on Intercity Transit Proposition 1. Goals and policy positions, capital program and services have been outlined for the six-year period.

This document summarizes significant events that affected delivery of transit services in the Thurston County Public Transportation Benefit Area (PTBA) during 2019. It also describes projected changes in local transit services over the next five years based on known facts and forecasted trends. The draft plan describes the methods and strategies proposed by Intercity Transit staff and endorsed by the Authority Board of Directors necessary to fulfill the provisions contained in our Mission and Vision statements.

The management of safety is one of our core business functions. Intercity Transit is committed to developing, implementing, maintaining, and constantly improving processes to ensure that all our transit service delivery activities take place under a balanced allocation of organizational resources, aimed at achieving the highest level of safety performance and meeting or exceeding established standards.

The 2021-2024 TIP was adopted on June 17, 2020, by the Intercity Transit Authority, and includes anticipated projects totaling more than $65 million in combined federal and local funds planned between 2021-2024.

The 2019 budget.

The Intercity Transit Short and Long Range Plan provides the framework for technical review of current fixed route services and also provides a roadmap for future service enhancements based on the public involvement process (IT Road Trip) that identified community priorities for future transit services. The plan also identifies future capital needs and considers constraints to reliance on future federal funding levels. The plan supports annual consideration of service levels, capital planning and updates to the Intercity Transit Strategic Plan which supports the annual budget development.

An innovative and unique public park & ride facility, built atop a closed portion of an old landfill in Thurston County, Washington, supports regional transportation throughout south Puget Sound. The Hawks Prairie Park & Ride was recognized as the 2013 Washington State Project of the Year by the American Public Works Association.
