Intercity Transit recruiting volunteers to help shape public transit
Apply to serve in either a policy-level or advisory capacity

Olympia, WA – The Intercity Transit Authority (ITA) is seeking civically-minded individuals to serve on the ITA Board or on the Community Advisory Committee (CAC).

The ITA, a nine-member Board of Directors that sets policy and direction for the transit agency, is made up of elected officials who represent the Thurston County Board of Commissioners and the Cities of Lacey, Tumwater, Olympia, and Yelm, a labor representative, and three citizen representatives. There is an opening for one citizen representative to serve a three-year term. The citizen representative must live within the public transportation benefit area.

Intercity Transit is the only public transit authority in the State to allow citizen representatives full voting membership on its governing board. “This is a rare opportunity to provide leadership that will have a lasting impact on public transit in our community,” said Ryan Warner, Citizen Representative and Chair of the Intercity Transit Authority. “Serving as a citizen representative, I have seen firsthand how valuable it is to have input from a cross-section of the community we serve is. The five-year zero-fare demonstration project is just one example of Intercity Transit’s commitment to equity, inclusiveness and creating a welcoming environment for our entire community.”

To apply for the ITA citizen representative position, send a letter of interest and a resume to Intercity Transit Authority, Attn: Pat Messmer, P.O. Box 659, Olympia, WA 98507-0659; or place the material in the vanpool payment dropbox located at 526 Pattison SE, Olympia, WA  98501; or email materials to pmessmer@intercitytransit.com. Materials must be received by 5 p.m., October 14, 2020.

The CAC is a 20-member advisory group that provides input to the ITA on local public transportation issues. Nineteen members serve three-year terms, while the youth position serves a one-year term. Members are selected to represent a cross-section of the community and geographical representation from throughout the public transportation benefit area. The group includes senior citizens, youth, people with disabilities, college students, business owners, environmentalists, bicyclists, and representatives from social service agencies, neighborhood associations, and the medical community.

CAC applications are available at intercitytransit.com, or by calling 360-705-5857. Completed applications can be mailed to CAC Attn: Nancy Trail, PO Box 659, Olympia, WA 98507, placed in our vanpool payment dropbox located at 526 Pattison Street SE in Olympia, or emailed to ntrail@intercitytransit.com.
